Mid-Minnesota FCU sponsors medallion hunt at Little Falls Dam Festival

Morrison County Record © 06/12/2014 – LITTLE FALLS, Minn. – Although clues for the medallion hunt sponsored by Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union will  be released starting Monday, other events happening at the 2014 Little Falls Dam Festival will begin Friday.

Clues to help find the medallion will be released by 9 a.m. Monday through Friday at www.mmfcu.org.

The medallion is located within Little Falls City limits and is on public property. It is not buried or inside of a building. The finder must present the medallion to staff at Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union during business hours for verification. The finder of the medallion will win $500 to be presented  at the Dam Festival on Friday.

Friday the Little Falls Business Association will sponsor sidewalk sales beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until 5 p.m.

Festival Chair Becky McClain said, “One of the big events is our $12,000 raffle. There will only be 250 tickets sold and while they are $100 apiece I encourage people to gather friends and relatives to share the cost of the tickets.”

Food vendors and the beer booth will be available and the medallion hunt ceremony (under the big tent) will take place at 5 p.m. From 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. the live band “Power Plant” whose members are 12 to 14 years old will perform and at 8 p.m. a street dance with the live band, “Loss for Words” is scheduled.

Saturday a full day of fun for all ages has been planned including the Dam2Dam ride starting at LeBourget Park. There will be free airplane rides for ages 8 to 17. (A permission slip needs to be signed by a parent or guardian). It will be held at the airport as will a pancake breakfast sponsored by Kinship.

There will be tours of the Minnesota Power hydroelectric  power plant for ages 10 and older.

The parade which will start at Seventh Avenue N.E. by city hall and travel south on First Street ending on Seventh Street S.E. near St. Gabriel’s Hospital will begin at 11 p.m.

Beginning at noon there will be a family carnival, inflatables, petting zoo, food vendors, arts and crafts land, chain saw sculpture, Squid Wheelies motorcycle stunt team, bingo, cash raffle giveaway, a live hip hop dance show, street dance starring ladies of the 80s/Ladies of Country/Rock it Science and at 10:05 p.m. the fireworks will begin.

“Most all of the entertainment and fun events are free. Our committee has worked very hard to keep it as free as possible. Without the generous donations from our sponsors and community this event would not happen.  I give a big thank you to all who support us and hope everyone comes out to enjoy the fun,” McClain said.All events will take place at Maple Island Park unless otherwise noted.

The Little Falls Dam Festival will be held Saturday, June 21. A backdrop to Maple Island Park is the Mississippi River and dam which play an important part in the history of the festival. This year’s attendees at the festival will be greeted by rushing water over the dam and a high water level along the banks of the park.
