US Federal CU Shred Event has big impact on community and environment

US Federal shred event

press release: US Federal Credit Union – BURNSVILLE, Minn. – US Federal Credit Union (USFCU) partnered with Shred Right, the Better Business Bureau, and the Minnesota Department of Commerce to host a shred event on April 12, 2014.

Shred Event: Secure Your ID Day was open to the community and USFCU encouraged both members and non-members to bring sensitive documents for free shredding. Shred Right trucks were on-site at USFCU Bloomington, Burnsville, Lakeville, Shakopee, and Fridley branch locations providing free, secure shredding services to the community.

This event not only provides a way for community members to protect themselves against identity theft by securely shredding important documents, but it also has an added impact on the environment. As a result of the spring Shred Event: Secure Your ID Day; USFCU helped the community recycle 38,590 pounds, roughly 19 tons, of material. According to Shred Right, the recycled paper equates to saving nine years and seven months of electricity, 328 trees, and 135,065 gallons of water.

The shred event is just one of the many ways USFCU encourages the community to prevent identity theft. USFCU will be hosting another Shred Event in September 2014. For more information about safeguarding your sensitive information, please visit www.usfed.org or www.thefirstbbb.org.
